The long growing season and Mediterranean climate of California are highly attractive growing conditions which allow the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. During fermentation we carefully extract the soft, silky tannins and rich color from the grapes. Aged on oak for close to a year which heightens the richness and complexity of the wine.
2015 Dry Creek Vineyard Heritage Vines Zinfandel, Sonoma County 750 mL Wine
Manufacturer: Dry Creek Vineyard
Brand: Dry Creek Vineyard
A dry and warm winter began the 2015 growing season with budbreak coming in early March. Cool weather came during fruit set, with not a lot of sunshine. A heat spike came in late June. However, the grapes ripened evenly and flavor and development were right where we wanted them to be. Yields were a bit down from previous vintages, but the quality was extremely high. This was one of our earliest recorded harvests with one of the earliest finishes in our history!
2014 Palmina Santa Barbara County Red Dolcetto 750mL Wine
"Dolcetto" translates to "little sweet one"- not because it is a sweet wine (it is perfectly dry) - because it is a friendly and easy-going grape to work with and so pleasurable in the glass. Even Dolcetto's hue speaks to its easy going nature, with a deep and bright ruby color inviting a sip. The nose is spicy and very berry, with a hint of spice mingling with blackberry aromas that waft from the glass.

The second consecutively warm vintage in a row for Washington, 2014 had record-breaking heat in many parts of the Columbia Valley AVA. These increased temperatures led to an early harvest by about two weeks across the valley. We are particularly excited about our reds for this vintage, as we've seen soft tannins and ripe fruit flavors with a crisp acidity in these wines.
We enjoyed a beautiful vintage in 2013 with consistent sunshine and moderate temperatures that grapes love. After a wet start to winter in 2012, spring was warmer than usual, triggering an early bud break and flowering and fruit set under sunny skies. With only one heat spike in late June/early July, Napa's typical warm days and cool nights produced healthy vines. We started harvesting about two weeks early than usual and never seemed to stop with grapes coming in at a steady pace.
2013 Paul Dolan Vineyards Pinot Noir Mendocino County Potter Valley 750 mL Wine
Manufacturer: Mendocino Wine Co
Brand: Paul Dolan Vineyards
The vineyards that produce this Pinot Noir are located on the remote, southwestern outskirts of the Mendocino National Forest. Here the soils are rich and deep, imparting flavors that hint at the nearby wilderness. Medium-bodied, this wine is a harmonious blend of flavors: wild berries, luscious cherries, and the spicy vanilla of toasted oak. This wine is the unique expression of a carefully nurtured piece of land, made manifest in each bottle. We do without conventional pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, treating the soil as a living, life-giving system. Our winegrowing practices create special wines, while sustaining the integrity of the fruit.
The 2013 growing season was one of the hottest on records, right in stride with 1998 and 2003. Hot, 90 degree temperatures came on in early spring, prompting an earlier than average bud break. This hot spell was followed by welcome spring rains that helped establish healthy canopies early in the season with bloom occurring early in June. Intense heat hung around from late June into mid September when a dramatic shift in weather brought us a nice cool, but dry fall allowing for good hang time.
2014 The Ojai Vineyard Santa Barbara Pinot Noir Wine 750 mL
Manufacturer: The Ojai Vineyard
Brand: The Ojai Vineyard
Since 2005 we've been experimenting with when to pick pinot noir. Although it's a bit counterintuitive, I found we were losing something if the fruit got too ripe. Yes, riper fruit produces bigger, thicker wines-but at the expense of aroma and freshness-and that's what pinot noir is all about.
