This 2013 vintage of Walla Walla Syrah is our best yet! With a dark bohemian garnet color there is a snappy and expressive nose of black pepper, nutmeg, blueberry and vanilla. The palate is wide, deep and dark with luscious fruit flavors of black cherry and blueberry, while being framed by peppery and earthy notes. Beautiful velvety tannins play equally well with ripe fruit and delicious earthy tones. All components contribute to a generous and lingering finish.
Moniker Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine showcasing three clones – 4, 337 and 191 – from Ukiah Valley’s finest southwestern exposed sites. From maceration to fermentation, we worked to preserve the wine’s tannic backbone: cold soaking the grapes for two days, pumping over the cap, and briefly leaving some of the lots on the skins for greater extraction. We chose a Languedoc yeast strain prized for delivering optimum fore-mouth volume while retaining varietally correct flavors, then blended in a touch of Petite Sirah for power and Cabernet Franc for a lacing of tobacco. French oak’s unique propensity to gather complex flavors over time harmonizes with the secondary tones this Cabernet Sauvignon will develop with age.
2014 Paul Dolan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Mendocino County 750 mL Wine
Manufacturer: Paul Dolan Vineyards
Brand: Paul Dolan Vineyards
North of Ukiah, a rare white deer herd wanders through the hills near the southwest facing foothill vineyard that grew this Cabernet Sauvignon. This full-flavored wine shows the intensity of its red soil roots. It is ripe and plummy, with intriguing notes of anise and brown spice, and the structure to age five years or more from the vintage. This wine is the unique expression of a carefully nurtured piece of land, made manifest in each bottle. We do without conventional pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, treating the soil as a living, lifegiving system. Our winegrowing practices create special wines, while sustaining our environment, the place where we live, and the people who live here.
Moniker Pinot Noir is a big, dark-hued wine sourced from three cool-climate Mendocino County vineyards, each imparting their own flavors: earth from Anderson Valley, intense berry from Redwood Valley and rhubarb and potpourri from Potter Valley. We fermented a portion of the grapes in macro-bins, punching down by hand for wine of high color and intensity to contrast with the savory nature of pumped-over tank lots. A German yeast strain supported the wine’s dark fruit profile while native yeasts contributed bright fruit and forest floor aromatics. Malolactic fermentation and the boldness of American oak lend sumptuousness and spice to this strong and expressive vintage.
