Sometimes doing it right means doing it the hard way. We trucked in the best Grenache grapes we could find from Santa Ynez Valley in SoCal. Then, instead of using machines (the easy way), we treated the fruit with the respect it deserves and meticulously punched it down by hand (the pain in the ass way). We gave it a double dose of oak invigoration by processing it straight into 100% new French oak puncheons and aging it there. To finish, we blended the Grenache with 5% of Petit Verdot for extra structure and a deeper color.
2013 Grateful Dead Steal Your Face Red Blend Wine Pack, 3 x 750 mL
Manufacturer: Wines that Rock
Brand: Wines That Rock
To capture the essence of the live energy of the Grateful Dead's Steal Your Face, Winemaker Mark Beaman chose to meld several varieties into one. Just as the band members would segue through various musical styles, this wines far reaching flavors melt seamlessly from one to the next, blending Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel & Grenache. In honor of the band's famous improvisational concerts that have brought joy to so many, this wine celebrates Mendocino County's bounty of diversity and freedom of experimentation.
Moniker Pinot Noir is a big, dark-hued wine sourced from three cool-climate Mendocino County vineyards, each imparting their own flavors: earth from Anderson Valley, intense berry from Redwood Valley and rhubarb and potpourri from Potter Valley. We fermented a portion of the grapes in macro-bins, punching down by hand for wine of high color and intensity to contrast with the savory nature of pumped-over tank lots. A German yeast strain supported the wine’s dark fruit profile while native yeasts contributed bright fruit and forest floor aromatics. Malolactic fermentation and the boldness of American oak lend sumptuousness and spice to this strong and expressive vintage.
Moniker Cabernet Sauvignon is an elegant wine showcasing three clones – 4, 337 and 191 – from Ukiah Valley’s finest southwestern exposed sites. From maceration to fermentation, we worked to preserve the wine’s tannic backbone: cold soaking the grapes for two days, pumping over the cap, and briefly leaving some of the lots on the skins for greater extraction. We chose a Languedoc yeast strain prized for delivering optimum fore-mouth volume while retaining varietally correct flavors, then blended in a touch of Petite Sirah for power and Cabernet Franc for a lacing of tobacco. French oak’s unique propensity to gather complex flavors over time harmonizes with the secondary tones this Cabernet Sauvignon will develop with age.
2013 House of Independent Producers HIP Merlot 750ml

2013 was another excellent vintage in Washington State, made slightly unusual by 80 plus temperatures in April and 90 plus temperatures in May. This uncommon early season heat caused bud break and growth to be early and rapid, exceeding average by about ten days. An average summer meant veraison and harvest began early, which led to ripe fruit throughout the state. Once again, average in Washington is everyone else great. Fruit was predominately sourced from The Sagemoor Farms Vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA.
