The rich and bold, New World-style Moniker Chardonnay was made primarily from grapes grown at La Ribera, our family’s home vineyard along the banks of the Russian River. After gently pressing a combination of whole-cluster and de-stemmed grapes, we fermented and aged the wine four months sur lie in American oak barrels. This added a sturdy, complex framework for our fruit’s signature pear, apple and crisp mineral flavors. We then blended in a lush, barrel-fermented Viognier sourced from nearby Hopland and another subtly spicy lot of Chardonnay aged in French oak for a wine that is equal parts nuanced and approachable.

2013 was another excellent vintage in Washington State, made slightly unusual by 80 plus temperatures in April and 90 plus temperatures in May. This uncommon early season heat caused bud break and growth to be early and rapid, exceeding average by about ten days. An average summer meant veraison and harvest began early, which led to ripe fruit throughout the state. Once again, average in Washington is everyone else great. Fruit was predominately sourced from The Sagemoor Farms Vineyard in the Columbia Valley AVA.
Vintners and growers around the state of California are heralding the excellent quality of the 2014 vintage, nearly identical to the previous year's growing season. Many experienced healthy winter rains, limited amount of night frosts in the spring and few significant heat spikes in the summer - truly ideal conditions leading up to harvest. The long and sunny summer rewarded growers with extended hang time needed for flawless grape maturity. Winemakers across the board noted that fruit showed great balance and acidity, improved color intensity, good tannin structure and most importantly, rich and complex flavor profiles.
