Weather conditions fell to 7 degrees Fahrenheit and the grapes were allowed to freeze on the vine before harvesting. The frozen grapes were pressed over many hours in order to squeeze out the juice that was measured at 38 degrees brix. The wine was fermented to 12 percent alcohol and then stopped leaving 20% sugar in the wine.

2014 Estate Red Mountain Kiona Vineyards and Winery - Chenin Blanc Ice Wine 375 ml
Manufacturer: Kiona Vineyards and Winery
Brand: Kiona Vineyards and Winery
We pick these Red Mountain Chenin Blanc grapes during a deep freeze in order to coax the concentrated juice needed for a dessert wine of this caliber. This involves monitoring vineyard temperatures deep into the night and picking at the right time to ensure optimal flavor and sugar extraction. Kiona is an Indian word that means brown hills. The family owned winery helped pioneer the Washington wine industry when it planted some of the area's first vines in 1975. Two proud generations of winemaking and viticultural excellence are captured in this outstanding wine.
