Here at headquarters, we define Triage as the process of going through some of our undeployed high-end wine components and narrowing them down to one ultra-premium blend. No oak here; just a smooth, refreshing wine with bright flavors, palate-cleansing acidity and a crisp dry finish. It's one of the best white wine values that we've ever produced.
Manufacturer: Copper River Estate
Bright and crisp chardonnay, with great mouthfeel. Whole cluster pressed with extended sur lees aging, delivers a long lasting rich flavor profile. In the warmer 2014 vintage, we sourced our Chardonnay from some of the cooler vineyard sites in Washington, including the renowned Evergreen vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA. A touch of Pinot Gris adds to the natural acidity and minerality of this wine.
Grenache Blanc is native to Spain and not grown much around Napa. But why constrain ourselves? We trucked this fruit up from Santa Ynez in Southern California, where the varietal is more widely grown. The vigorously growing varietal was well-pruned to concentrate the flavors. We picked it on October 21-late for a white wine-to get it quite ripe, but not a day later.
2013 Convergence Zone Cellars 'Drizzle' Pinot Gris, Ciel du Cheval Vineyard, Red Mountain 750 mL
Manufacturer: Convergence Zone Cellars
Brand: Convergence Zone Cellars
The 2013 vintage was a warm year with vine growth beginning early and harvest ahead of schedule. Our first grapes of the 2013 harvest were harvested from the famous Ciel du Cheval vineyard in Washington's Red Mountain AVA on August 26th and brought to Woodinville for processing--the first grapes picked on Red Mountain and the first brought into Woodinville. Brix (% sugar) at harvest was 22.3%. The fruit was loaded into a pneumatic bladder press where the grapes were pressed "whole cluster" (they were not crushed or destemmed prior to pressing). After about two hours of gentle pressing, the Pinot Gris juice was transferred to a settling tank for several days. We then transferred the settled juice to stainless steel tanks for a one month cool fermentation. After heat and cold stabilization, Drizzle was cross-flow filtered on February 14, 2014 and bottled on February 17, 2014.
